The museum is open from 9 AM to 8 PM. The LGGR is reserved starting at 7 PM, but it is probably available sooner.  No badges or registration needed ;-)  It's important, though, that ppl need to show up by 8 PM or they may have difficulty getting in (no stragglers).

If folks want to come early they can (for a fee) visit the museum, including the Leonardo exhibit.  The largest ever to come to the US, it includes - among other things - dozens of working models of machines designed by Leonardo and his contemporaries. For those interested in discount coupons for Leonardo, contact Rob Stephenson (rstephenson@thetech.org)

Topic: Scrape the Web: Strategies for programming websites that don't expect it

Speaker: Asheesh laroia

LINKS: Pycon Presentation

Do you find yourself faced with websites that have data you need to extract? Would your life be simpler if you could  programmatically input data into web applications, even those tuned to resist interaction by bots?

This talk presents the basics of web scraping and then dives into the details of different methods and where they are most applicable. You'll leave with an understanding of when to apply different tools and learn about a "heavy hammer" for screen scraping used by a project for the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Attendees should bring a laptop, if possible, to try the examples and optionally take notes.

8:40 - 9 pm: Mapping/Random Access

Mapping is a rapid-fire audience announcement of topics the announcer is interested in.

Random Access follows immediately to allow follow up individually on topics of interest.
